Finally Induction Lightbulb

Monday, Boston-based company Lucidity Lights revealed its alternative 60W replacement bulb called the Finally Acandescent.

The lightbulb uses neither CFL nor LED to generate light, but instead uses induction, a lighting technology first deployed back in 1990 which never gained much mainstream popularity, despite offering a long lifespan and relatively low energy consumption.

Lucidity looks to be trying to popularize the technique, and is offering its bulbs as a warmer alternative to CFL and LED, that look more like traditional incandescent bulbs. Earlier this year, incandescent bulbs became unavailable to consumers in the United States.

Each bulb will cost $9.99, and the company “intends to begin offering this product for sale in Summer 2014.” Currently it is taking pre-orders for the new bulbs.
